#7 Bling, Beach Christmas and Braids

As I've said before the Lucaya Market is just around the corner from our place and it is also the home of the Straw Market. Fifteen years ago this was an incredible place to visit with all of the vendors trying to out sell and yell their neighbours. Now, following covid/Dorian it is much quieter but still interesting to visit. Someone tried to sell me a bracelet to  match the ones I got in Mexico and they were exactly the same design as what I had so the question becomes.....Are my Mexican bracelets from Mexico or...... As Ray would say, "It just caught my eye." 5 plus carats of amethyst with a few diamonds thrown in. Tine to renew the car rental for another month. Our last month here. This is the rental office. I find it very funny. No sign. Just a little shack in a parking lot. Cassius is the owner and he is so amazing. I was concerned about getting the airport on time on the 28th of January. "No problem. Meet me here at 6 in the morning and I'll drive you to t...

#6 Family and The Great Flood

On my last trip to Solomon's before family arrived, I found bags of these delightful little peppers. I didn't buy any....I simply admired them. Buying them could lead to cooking and I'm not there yet.... No bananas. Really? No bananas??? When I asked I was told that the boat comes in Tues. and Thurs. so try again later in the week. When I went back on Wed. there were still no bananas. Living on an island where everything has to be imported is so interesting. You might buy something and want more and never see it again. Guess I could have bought some of these sweet potatoes but really not the same as bananas.... When I rented my present car I asked for a turquoise licence plate like the locals and was denied. I didn't care what the car was, I just wanted the right licence plate. This plate tells everyone that you are not local. It feels like a target on my bumper. They have to be the worst drivers on in the world. I get tail gated to such an extent that I can't see...

After finishing my blog writing on Monday mornings, my routine is to then drive to Banana Bay for lunch. Monday is their slowest day so it's perfect for me. Today it is only 19 degrees, cloudy with a good chance of rain. It is actually a nice break from the heat.  Last Monday I had these wonderful crab cakes. I'm working my way through their menu.  This is my island drink for this year. It is called an Arnold Palmer, guess he was the first to make it or something. I don't do history. It is half iced tea and half lemonade. Very delicious and I highly recommend you try it when the temperatures get back up there....... I also had this bowl of conch chowder which resembled soup more than chowder. It was a tad too spicy and some of the conch was a tad too rubbery. Need I say that I probably won't order it again? I spent most of Tues. and Wed. with these two. They came to my place as the knitting class was canceled until Jan. What a time we had!!! We got laughing so hard and ...
