#12 She Took Our Passports!!!!!!
Well, it has been quite the ride....
Let me finish off the Bahama's first.
Jerrisma on the left and Pam on the right, took me out to lunch at Flying Fish. Once more it was a wonderful time of discussion and learning. When we were in Barbados we ate flying fish all of the time.
This is how you place your order at Wendy's in Lucaya. Too funny!!!
On Jan.28th, we flew from Freeport, Grand Bahama Island to Nassau and then later that day Ray flew to Toronto via Air Canada and I flew 6 hours later on Westjet. I had upgraded my ticket to first class and now know that is the way to go. The flight attendant and I had long conversations and when I got off of the plane she hugged me!!!
We spent two nights at an airport hotel and had the pleasure of dining with family.
Jan.30th we boarded an Air Canada Flight for Puerto Vallarta.
First, we went to the wrong terminal. Second, I couldn't find the train to take us to Terminal One. Third, we got a limo driver who wouldn't drive and come off of his phone. By now, the nice me is disappearing fast.
We take off late as there is a fuel injection problem. Thanks for finding it now and not when we are over the US where I have no intention of landing!!!
In flight about twoish hours when I look at Ray and notice he is pretty pinkish. I've been chatting away to the guy on the other side of me. I help Ray take off two of his three shirts. He had left his jacket and diabetic tester in the pocket in Nassau going through security.
Shortly there after, he makes a grab for the puke bag!!!
"You have to be kidding me...." No he wasn't and continued to puke for the next 2 hours. Three sips of water and food came up he had eaten years ago.
They finally ask for a doc and this wonderful gay doc from Sudbury comes and joins us. People around us were all giving me puke bags. I think I have a life time supply now. The head flight attendant and the doc each have an ear piece on talking to some doc somewhere in the world trying to diagnose what is going on. Pls don't land us in the US!!!!!
As we land in Puerto Vallarta, I look out of the window and there is an ambulance on the tar mac. Seems like this is protocol for in flight sickness. EMS guys come on and take Ray off. All of the other passengers have to wait. I have to get off too and leave Ray's cell phone in the back pocket. Are we having fun yet?!?!?!?!
An airport doc decides Ray needs to go to the hospital so they start moving him towards the ambulance. A woman comes along to "see" my passports and then walks away with them. I'm yelling at this point, "Hey, I need my passports back!!! Stop. Come back!!! I have to have our passports!!!!" OMG we are never going to be allowed to leave this country!!!
They insist that I get into the ambulance and we start the long haul to the hospital.
Three weeks previously a young woman had been killed in a car accident on the major road through PV. She was hit by 3 drunks and no one has been charged as the 3 of them are friends of the government so the women of PV have blocked off the road for the last 3 weeks with barricades. I get it. You go girls!!!
This poor medic is trying to insert and iv line into Ray's hand as we bounce along.
Once in the hospital, Ray is whisked away and I'm asked for a credit card. Oh, now I get why I had to come. I spend the next hour filling out forms and talking to our insurance company in Canada.
They take blood and have him on an iv to hydrate him. Blood says he has a stomach infection. No kidding!!! Now they add an antibiotic to the drip. Ray starts getting difficult and whiny so I know he is feeling better. 4K and 5 hours later we are discharged with no where to stay.
We get a taxi driver who doesn't know of a hotel with a restaurant. Really? Finally we get to this way too expensive joint. Get lied to about the price. Get to bed past midnight and can't sleep because......we don't have passports or luggage.
Next morning just past dawn we taxi to the airport which takes an hour due to the demonstrations and I camp out in front of Air Canada waiting for them to open.
"Who is in charge here?"
"The manager is in another building."
"Give her a call and let her know we have a big problem."
Finally I get someone to understand that we need our passports back plus the luggage would be nice......Eventually this little man hands the precious documents to me. I throw my arms around him in a big hug and he acts like it is the first of his life. We finally get the luggage and head off to the bus terminal to get the bus to San Blas.
As we get out of the taxi, other drivers start asking us where we are going. The bidding starts at 3000 pesos and I eventually get it for 2000. We are finally on our way!!!!
This is one of many reasons that I love Mexico. The gorgeous colours everywhere. The life...
We have mountains on our right and I'm trying desperately to show how big they are...
We traveled for 3 hours through many agricultural areas. Such a beautiful country!!!
We ask our taxi driver if he can stop in Aticama for lunch and he agrees as he was hungry too.
My first of what will be many lemonada natural. Fresh squeezed and oh so good!!!
And this is what has really brought us to Aticama. Oysters!!! They were so good!!!
I also ordered ceviche just because I could. Raw fish in lime joice.
We got to San Blas only to discover that our lovely room has been given to someone else so we get a nasty room with rock hard beds. The second night I start the pukes. Not nice.
A week ago we moved into our house owned by a western Canadian. Built by a Canadian. It is very nice but there is no AC and we are struggling with that.
This is Mexico. Sitting outside with a good read and suddenly there is a herd of cows coming down the road....
Our two housekeepers come on Thursdays to clean up for us. They found this amazing frog who liked to pose.
We went to the beach on Friday to have lunch with my friend Joy from Massachusetts and her daughter and son-in-law from Atlanta, Georgia. Good intelligent democrats...
We heard the rumble and then these appeared. Always surprises here....
This one won.
This is our house from the road. Not sure what we are doing yet. We may stop whining and suck up the heat or we may move. Just not sure...
Think I'm going for a morning nap now.
Thanks for reading. Blessings.
Oh, Air Canada insists that we fill out a binder full of forms and give hospital reports before Ray can fly again. Project for another day....
